The clear answer

Schedule only after receiving your Authorization to Test (ATT). Use its stated validity dates and the official NCLEX-specific locator. A general Pearson centre listing does not prove that an NCLEX appointment is available. Your testing city and your destination nursing regulator are separate choices.

Who this is for: Candidates who are eligible or approaching eligibility and want to organise an exam appointment safely.

Your route at a glance
  1. Read the ATT

Check the candidate details, exam, language and exact validity dates.

  2. Choose an appointment

Use the official NCLEX service and available dates.

  3. Save confirmation

Verify local time, address, ID requirements and change rules.

A planning overview. Steps can overlap; follow your regulator’s individual instructions.

01

What an ATT means

ATT stands for Authorization to Test. It is issued after the regulator declares eligibility and Pearson registration is complete. A payment receipt alone is not an ATT, and an ATT alone is not a final nursing licence.

Use the start and end dates shown in your email. NCSBN says the regulator specifies the validity period; do not assume every candidate in every jurisdiction has an identical period. BCCNM’s current exam instructions describe 90 days for its route.

Check your name and contact details early. If something is wrong, use the official correction process. It is easier to address an identification mismatch before travel than at the test-centre door.

02

Use the NCLEX-specific test-centre locator

Start at the official NCLEX testing-locations page and use its locator. It also links Canadian temporary testing locations and schedules. Temporary means an exam service is offered on specified dates; it does not mean the centre is always available.

A city listed in a blog is not a confirmed seat. For Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver or another location, check the live locator and appointment availability. Do not promise yourself a date from a screenshot taken earlier in the year.

For candidates seeking Canadian registration, Canada and the mainland United States are classified as domestic locations in NCSBN’s table. Other locations can involve the international scheduling fee. Check travel and entry requirements separately if an appointment is abroad.

03

Read the appointment confirmation line by line

An appointment request is not enough. Save the confirmation and check the date, local time, centre address, exam type and language. Verify the identification instructions using the official NCLEX rules before exam day.

Make a practical travel plan: how will you reach the centre, what happens if transport is delayed, and where will you keep your belongings? Check the provider’s current arrival and personal-item instructions. Leave extra travel time so a small delay does not create a rushed start.

Keep the confirmation accessible without depending on a weak connection. If you do not receive it, contact the official candidate service rather than assuming the appointment was created.

04

Changes need more care than a 24-hour countdown

NCSBN describes appointment-change notice in business-day terms and includes special instructions for weekend or Monday exams and holidays. Read those rules instead of treating 24 calendar hours as universally sufficient.

Use the approved online or telephone change route and obtain confirmation. Leaving an answering-machine message does not meet the stated notice requirement. Changes to international appointments have specific telephone instructions.

After any change, recheck the new confirmation and your ATT end date. Do not assume a rescheduled appointment extends your eligibility window.

05

Choose exam language deliberately

Exam language, regulator language evidence and app translation are separate choices. Confirm the examination language you intend to use before payment and check it again on the booking confirmation.

RN Clarity’s selected Canadian French navigation and lesson translations can support understanding, but its question stems, answer choices and assessments remain English. If you plan to take the official exam in French, use appropriate French-language official resources alongside any English practice and verify the current options directly.

06

An exam-week preparation routine

Keep the final week simple. Practise reading the complete patient situation, review recurring mistakes and plan sleep and transport. Avoid turning the night before into an attempt to learn every unfamiliar topic.

Use practice timing to learn pacing without treating a fixed-mock score or adaptive estimate as an official prediction. If the booking task is complete, return to the learning plan instead of checking appointment availability repeatedly.

Your practical checklist

Tick items as you organise your next steps. This checklist stays on this page during the current visit; it does not update a regulator application.

Terms in plain language

Keep the professional term. Use the explanation to understand what it means in your next step.

ATT validity
The start and end dates during which you may take the authorised exam.
Temporary test centre
A location offering NCLEX appointments on specified dates rather than continuous availability.
Local time
The time at the exam location, which may differ from your home time zone.
Business day
A working day under the provider’s rules; weekends and holidays can affect notice deadlines.

Common questions

Can I book before I receive my ATT?

NCSBN says candidates may not schedule until they receive their ATT. Follow your regulator’s registration instructions.

Is a Pearson centre automatically an NCLEX centre?

No. Use the NCLEX-specific locator and confirm an available appointment.

Does moving an appointment extend my ATT?

Do not assume that. Your exam must fit the stated ATT validity dates; check the official instructions before changing it.
