NCLEX-RN Canada for Nigerian Nurses: Provincial Registration Guide
Official sources checked September 22, 2026.
Quick answer
Start with the regulator in the Canadian province or territory where you want to practise. NCLEX-RN is one part of registration where required; it does not replace education assessment, language, practice and other provincial requirements. Do not assume every Canadian pathway starts with the same evaluator.
At a glance
| Destination | Provincial or territorial regulator |
|---|---|
| Education | Accepted provider and regulator assessment |
| Exam | NCLEX-RN where required for your category |
| Other requirements | Language, practice and jurisdiction-specific conditions |
| Immigration | Separate authority and process |
Choose the province before the service
Compare the current internationally educated nurse pathway of the intended province. Check its accepted assessment providers and application order before purchasing a report. A U.S. CES report, New York CVS or VisaScreen service is not automatically the report a Canadian regulator requires. Canadian nurse registration and Canadian immigration are also separate processes.
Ontario example: follow CNO’s current instructions
CNO’s outside-Canada guide uses an approved education credential assessment provider to validate credentials, with the application proceeding through its official portal. Additional requirements include evidence of practice, language, jurisprudence and transition to practice. These details are an Ontario example, not a national checklist. CNO’s evidence-of-practice rules deserve special attention if you are a fresh graduate or have a practice gap.
An exam result does not complete registration
CNO explains that someone who already passed NCLEX may not need to write it again, while still needing all remaining registration requirements. Ask the destination regulator how it receives official prior results. Do not book another exam solely because you changed countries, and do not represent yourself as licensed until registration is actually granted.
Plan your next steps
- Choose the intended province/territory.
- Read its current internationally educated RN pathway.
- Confirm accepted assessment service and required evidence.
- Complete exam eligibility and NCLEX where required.
- Finish all other registration conditions and verify registration.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming NNAS or a U.S. evaluation is mandatory everywhere.
- Treating VisaScreen as a Canadian registration service.
A U.S. report or licence does not automatically complete Canadian registration.

- Each: satisfy exam eligibility and receive ATT
- NCLEX: one registration requirement
- Finish the destination’s remaining conditions
Common questions
Can Nigerian nurses take NCLEX for Canada instead of the United States?
Yes, through the applicable Canadian regulator’s eligibility pathway. Choose the province or territory and check its full registration requirements first. NCLEX does not replace education, language, practice or other provincial requirements.
