Texas NCLEX Application for Nigerian Nurses: International Applicant Guide
Official sources checked September 22, 2026.
Quick answer
Texas has a specific internationally educated applicant pathway. It includes an accepted CES Full Education Professional report, licence verification, jurisprudence and background-check requirements, and recency rules. Review first-ATT and repeat-applicant instructions separately before paying.
At a glance
| Education report | Accepted CES Full Education Professional report |
|---|---|
| Professional record | Verification from required licensing authorities |
| Other checks | Jurisprudence and fingerprint/background requirements |
| Recency | First-ATT and retake pathways differ |
| English | Check programme-language condition and accepted evidence |
A useful first eligibility check
The Texas examination page says a first-time international applicant must have worked within the preceding four years or be within four years of graduation. Applicants outside its eligibility period face re-education requirements; a refresher is not the same thing. If your graduation, practice or prior ATT history is complicated, ask Texas BON which pathway applies rather than assuming a new application resets the clock.
Reports must meet the Texas instructions
Texas specifies accepted evaluation providers, report age and direct submission. It also requires verification from jurisdictions where the applicant holds or has held a licence, with details on what the CES includes. Its current instructions make English testing conditional on whether the nursing programme was conducted in English. Confirm the evidence Texas needs; this is separate from VisaScreen.
Organise checks and questions early
Record your graduation date, practice dates, previous examination history and licence history before starting. Keep a separate row for the jurisprudence examination and fingerprint/background process. Use the current Texas Nurse Portal application category and fee shown by the board. This guide intentionally leaves the Texas fee editable in the budget planner rather than substituting an unverified amount.
Plan your next steps
- Review Texas international first-ATT or retake instructions.
- Check graduation, practice and prior ATT dates.
- Select a currently accepted evaluation provider.
- Arrange required authority submissions and checks.
- Resolve eligibility questions with Texas BON.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using another state’s report requirements.
- Treating a refresher course as guaranteed re-education.
Roles, not a compulsory sequence or one required provider.
