CGFNS / TruMerit for Nigerian Nurses: CES, CVS & Credential Evaluation

Official sources checked September 22, 2026.

Quick answer

Choose the nursing regulator before purchasing a credential service. TruMerit, formerly CGFNS International, offers different reports and programmes; a CES report, New York CVS, Certification Program and VisaScreen are not interchangeable.

Match a service to a recipient

Write down the exact report name, accepted provider, recipient and validity period from the regulator’s instructions. Ask the provider what is included before adding optional services. A credential evaluator can assess or verify evidence, but it does not issue your ATT or decide your destination licence. Buying a more expensive package does not guarantee a faster or successful licensing decision.

Keep school and NMCN requests distinct

Your school holds academic records; NMCN holds professional registration information. Give each the correct request and recipient reference. If the evaluator says a document is missing, identify whether it was never sent, never received or received but not accepted. That distinction makes a follow-up request much more useful than repeatedly resending personal scans.

New York and Texas illustrate the difference

NYSED describes New York CVS and a direct-document alternative. Texas describes a CES Full Education Professional report from an accepted provider. Neither example establishes a rule for every U.S. state or Canadian province. VisaScreen addresses a separate U.S. screening purpose and should not be purchased on the assumption that it replaces the regulator’s report.

Plan your next steps

  1. Select the destination regulator.
  2. Copy its exact report and provider requirements.
  3. Check current service scope, fee and validity.
  4. Request primary-source records.
  5. Track report delivery and regulator review separately.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Ordering CES when the recipient requires another service.
  • Treating an evaluator report as board approval.

Common questions

How do I send my Nigerian nursing school transcript to CGFNS or a U.S. board?

Follow the recipient’s exact request form, reference number and approved delivery method, and ask the school to supply records directly when required. A personal copy is not automatically acceptable official evidence. Track receipt and acceptance separately.

Do Nigerian nurses need CGFNS before taking NCLEX?

Not in one universal form for every regulator. Determine whether your chosen board requires an evaluation service, which providers it accepts and the exact report. New York’s CVS/direct-document options and Texas’s CES requirements illustrate why the recipient comes first.

What is the difference between CGFNS CES, CVS and the Certification Program?

CES evaluates education for its specified purpose; New York CVS verifies credentials for NYSED; the Certification Program is a separate service with its own requirements. None is automatically a substitute for another or for VisaScreen. Order only what the recipient requires.
