Florida NCLEX-RN Application and Preparation Guide
Follow Florida RN examination steps, electronic background screening, education evaluation, fees and repeat-examination requirements.
Quick answer
Florida reviews education and other licence requirements, including electronic background screening, before examination eligibility. The published application and licensing fee is $110; Pearson and fingerprint-provider charges are separate.
Florida application routes are not interchangeable
Florida’s current nursing page distinguishes initial examination, already-passed examination, re-examination and MOBILE endorsement pathways. Choose the relevant route for your education and licence history. An existing passing NCLEX result should not automatically lead you to register for another examination.
For a first examination application, follow the education, background screening, application, evidence and board-review sequence. The board transmits approved eligibility to Pearson. Licence issuance follows a passing examination and completion of all applicable requirements.
- Read the specific route before creating an application.
- Use the MQA portal for submissions and status.
- Keep official approval separate from a payment receipt.

Background screening must reach the correct board
Florida requires electronic fingerprinting using an approved Livescan provider. Its guidance emphasises using the correct Board of Nursing ORI, an identifying number telling the system which authority should receive the result. Keep the transaction tracking information for follow-up.
An ordinary background report you purchased independently may not satisfy the board’s specified process. Use the official provider instructions and check that the result is routed correctly.
- Check the ORI in the current board instructions.
- Keep the provider receipt and transaction tracking number.
- Respond to board requests through its approved channel.

International education and English evidence
Florida’s international-education instructions identify accepted evaluation providers and require the report to be sent electronically directly by the agency. They also explain English evidence when applicable. Do not assume a report accepted by another state is automatically accepted by Florida.
The official international instructions distinguish taking NCLEX from licence issuance: an SSN is needed before a licence is issued, while it is not required to complete the application process and take the examination. Follow the board’s current instructions for your circumstances.
- Use a provider on Florida’s current accepted list.
- Confirm required report delivery and English-test rules.
- Keep immigration/work authorization separate from professional licensure.

Costs, retakes and your planning checklist
The board page publishes a $110 application/licensing fee and variable Livescan costs. Pearson registration is separate and its announced 2027 increase should be checked on the NCLEX fee page. No planner can guarantee a complete total before you obtain applicable service quotes.
Florida requires a board-approved remedial course after three consecutive examination failures, regardless of the jurisdiction in which those attempts occurred. Read the board’s re-examination pathway and deadlines before planning another date. The national 45-day minimum is not the only possible condition.
- Track education evidence, screening, application fee and additional board requests.
- For retakes, include all previous attempts when checking the rule.
- Wait for the appropriate ATT and follow its validity dates.
